Preventive Measures to be taken:

  • Do not accept random requests anywhere until and unless you know them personally.
  • Do not share your personal or professional details with any random person. You might not know what happens next.
  • Do not share personal sensitive photographs on a social media platform.
  • If you notice that your fake personal profile is created, then immediately inform the social media service provider and ask them to report it.
  • Never underestimate strong & complex passwords length. Note it down in your diary and do not save it in a browser or third-party apps like a password manager.
  • Do not share your airlines, train tickets on social media. This can cause you so many problems.
  • While chatting with someone online and found suspicious then ask them logical questions or mathematical questions. If it fails to answer then it can be a computer bot.
  • Never use public WiFi for accessing the sites where you have to register, put in card details, share passwords, or chatting online. The MITM attack can be performed in public WiFi and your credentials will be in danger if you do so.
  • Always cross verify the platform or sites if you are applying for an internship or job by some random posts on social media. You might not know if they ask for money or anything.

  • Section 79 in The Information Technology Act, 2000 says that any social media intermediary will not be on the radar of legal action for any third party information, data, or communication link made available or hosted by him.
  • Section 67A in The Information Technology Act, 2000 — Punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing the sexually explicit act, etc., in electronic form.
